Victoria’s Ski Race Season as a 9 year old

Alpine ski racing for kids is of course all about fun, but the competition, training, development, and readiness really adds a new element to any ski family, including ours.  For racing as a 9 year old like Victoria, this means you are categorized as an “Under 10”, or “U10” for short.  She races against other U10’s, which really just means kids whose birth years are 2015/2016 (for ski season 2024/25).   This is our first post of Alpine ski racing, and while not a mandatory part of the Crawl, Walk, Ski journey, it may end up becoming a pursuit if

Planning for First Ski Season – Dress for Success

Having the right clothing is just as important as having the right skis. Cold kids mean unhappy kids, so dressing properly can make or break the experience. We’ve learned that dressing for skiing is all about layering.  Here is quick list of what you will need: a base layer, tall socks, a mid layer, a ski jacket, snow bibs, balaklava, a neck tube (on occasion), solid gloves and ski boots  Base Layers  The right type of fabric for your child is super important, let’s face it as your child is still learning and you are mainly doing the work,

 Victoria: I’m 8.  Why I ski.

I ski because it makes me feel free and happy. My favorite part about skiing is that I can make my own decision about what to do. Skiing is so unpredictable and fun, especially when I make the wrong turns. A funny story was me and my dad went to Big Sky Montana and we saw one of my dad’s friends there and we were going on a Woods trail when Me and my dad took a wrong turn and we were in the woods half the day and it was so fun because we didn’t know where we

Baby’s First Ski Boots

Buying ski boots before your child can walk isn’t exactly something a “normal” person does. But if you’re like us—motivated to challenge yourself and your little one to get after it early—then why not? With Isaac just turning 1, we bought his first ski boots before he could even crawl (summer deals are hard to pass up—more on that later). It became both a symbol of our drive to get him on snow early and a motivating (sometimes panic-inducing) reminder to finally get this blog going. After all, if we didn’t start documenting Isaac’s ski journey now, we might

Charlotte: I’m 4.  Why I ski.

I ski because I love it.  Because I just love ski school.  I love going on the chairlift with the teacher and meeting new people.  I’m really shy but when I go skiing I am awesome and cool. I was scared the first time I went skiing.  At ski school, I was scared because I wanted my Mommy and Daddy and I missed them. I’m 4 and I love skiing and I most of all love my River runners. Sometimes I even like going on a chairlift with other people and they ask me questions. My Favorite part of

You’ll Feel It

I was skiing with Charlotte today: early season, fresh legs, but she hadn’t really been on skis since last year. As she took off down the mountain away from me, something inside me just blurted out, “You’ll feel it!” I wasn’t coaching her, I wasn’t trying to give advice—I was saying something that I thought might rekindle something in her at that exact moment when I realized it was bigger than just skiing. Because when you put yourself out there—when you do something hard—you feel it. The rush, the fear, the uncertainty, the pride. And as a parent teaching
